Learn some Māori kupu (words) about volcanic hazards
Just in time for Te Wiki o te Reo Māori 2024 (Māori Language Week 2024), we share some kupu (words) that are important when learning more about building community resilience to volcanic hazards.
I mōhio rānei koe…Did you know?
As a part of making the educational card game, 5 Minute Volcano(external link) (Ahi tipua rima miniti), our team have worked with a translator (Kaiwhakamāori) to translate the game into Te Reo Māori.
Developed under the Beneath the Waves programme, this game aims to demonstrate how teachers, scientists, emergency managers, children, community leaders and others need to work together to support safer communities living near volcanoes.
Below are some kupu (words) that are important when learning more about volcanic hazards and building resilience. Try them out! How many can you learn?
