Biography

Jacqueline’s research interests include volcanology, geochemistry and natural hazards. Her research focused on conducting field observations and textural analyses of volcanic deposits alongside geochemical analyses of rocks and minerals to investigate shallow conduit processes, magma-water interactions, as well as explosive eruption dynamics and associated hazards. She was also involved in monitoring ongoing eruptions in Iceland and quantifying tsunami hazards for the Maltese Islands.

Project role

In the ‘Beneath the Waves’ research programme, Jacqueline is undertaking her doctoral research (PhD). She is investigating the pyroclastic eruptive histories and the frequency-magnitude relationships of Tūhua (Mayor Island) and Whakaari (White Island). This will be done via the collection and assessment of marine sediment cores taken from around the islands. The data obtained will then be used to calibrate models and simulate past and future ashfall scenarios from the two volcanoes, to determine the probabilistic likelihood of onshore ash impact.
