Rachelle (Rae) SanchezPhD Student

Biography
Rae has completed an MA in Geology from Miami University of Ohio and a BSci in Geology from Central Washington University. Her previous research experience utilized thermal and mass balanced computational modelling of magma-mixing processes and petrographic analyses and isotope analyses to investigate magmatic generation and plumbing history and timescales prior to eruption.
Project role
Supported by the Raranga Whāriki Papa Moana | Beneath the Waves programme, Rae is undertaking a PhD at Massey University. Her research will focus on the physiochemical conditions and spatiotemporal history of hydrothermal alteration at Tongariro utilizing petrographic analyses, geochemistry, and mass balance modelling techniques. The results of which can provide insight into the timescales of hydrothermal alteration associated with phreatic eruptions and flank collapse.
