Simon BarkerGeologist
Biography
Simon’s research specialties include volcanology, geochemistry and petrology. He uses field studies of volcanic deposits and geochemical analysis of rocks and minerals to investigate magmatic systems, and the timing and impacts of large explosive volcanic eruptions on the environment, climate, and humans.
Project role
In the ‘Beneath the Waves’ research programme, Simon is supervising students on the piston core analysis that will refine the hazard histories of both islands, and the ashfall simulation to determine probabilistic likelihood of ash impact.
