Xiaoming WangProject Leader: Simulate & Tsunami Scientist
Biography
Xiaoming’s research focuses on water wave dynamics and coastal flooding, particularly tsunami. He develops and applies hydrodynamic models to evaluate tsunami hazards and risks for better land-use planning, effective tsunami hazard mitigations, and improved resilience. He is a key developer of one of the most widely recognised tsunami models – COMCOT.
Project role
In the ‘Beneath the Waves’ research programme, Xiaoming is leading the Simulate Research Aim and developing numerical models to simulate tsunami generation, propagation and coastal inundation caused by volcanic mass failures, pyroclastic density currents, and other tsunamigenic processes.
