Biography

Ben’s research is driven by trans-disciplinary and novel collaborations between Science, Education, Engineering and Arts. His areas of interest include geoscience education research and science communication, online learning, physical volcanology, high temperature and pressure experimental volcanology, analogue modelling, microtextural analysis, and volcanic hazards.

Project role

In the ‘Beneath the Waves’ research programme, Ben is helping to bring together educators, researchers, cultural experts, teachers, scientists and designers to develop new ways of learning about and communicating volcanic hazards on New Zealand's coastline. Ben is excited to learn more about the mātaurunga Māori knowledge stream on Aotearoa’s east coast and work with Māori communities to make volcano science knowledge relevant and fun to learn.
