Biography

Paea has a Diploma in Marine Studies and a Bachelor of Biological Science and brings experience of hapu environmental monitoring, rangatahi involvement and taiao awareness.

Project role

Supported by the Raranga Whāriki Papa Moana | Beneath the Waves programme, Paea is undertaking a Masters in Indigenous Studies at Te Whare Wānanga o Awanuiārangi. Her research will focus on the Mātauranga of Tūhua Island and using Mātauranga Māori to inform contemporary settings of offshore volcanic islands. Specifically, her thesis topic is “Raising awareness of volcanic islands through the use of Mātauranga Tuku Iho (traditional knowledge systems)”.
